Nephew Blake arrived at the family farm on Sunday … or so I’ve been told. I haven’t seen him yet, but we’re on for a special date night tonight.
Well, it will be Blake, nephew Zach, niece Katie and niece Jessie … a car load, for sure.
I am taking them to the Verne Drive-In in Luverne to watch the movie, "Up."
I thought I would write about the trip before we go, rather than after. These adventures never turn out the way one hopes.
The kids will probably be all sugared up, bouncing from the hatchback of "Auntie Juwee’s" car, begging to go to the Concession stand and needing to use the restroom about half a dozen times during the show. I don’t anticipate I’ll be able to watch the whole movie.
Oh well … there’s still nothing better than enjoying a movie in the great outdoors, under a moonlit sky.
Many years ago, when I was a little kid, Worthington’s Gay Drive-In lured lots of people outdoors to watch picture shows. I remember going a time or two with my family in our big, green Chrysler, but I can’t remember what we watched. More than likely, I fell asleep before the movie finished!
I do remember the summers when our church hosted Sunday morning outdoor services at the Gay Drive-In. What a concept it was to park up next to the poles with speakers and listen to the sermon from the comfort of your car. Best of all, we didn’t have to get dressed up!
I haven’t checked the weather forecast for tonight, but I’m guessing I better pack a few blankets and maybe a pillow or two for the kiddos. Jessie and I will then try to keep them from disturbing everyone else!
